Vocation Mission Support

THE BIRTH OF DOMINICAN MISSION FOR VOCATION SUPPORT (MVS)

When a Province moves to a virgin territory to sow the Dominican seed, it is expected that the seed will grow from a Vicariate to a Vice-Province and then a Province. Since its inception in 1993, the Vicariate of Eastern Africa has grown both in structure and personnel. After 25 years of existence the province of St. Joseph decided to prepare the Vicariate of Eastern Africa to be independent through weaning. This weaning means reduction of subsidy that began at 3% now at 9%, in such a way that in the next few years it will come to Zero.

It is a challenge, of

  1. Having proper formation structures
  2. Stable and sustainable ministries
  3. Stable and manageable pension and health support
  4. Income generating projects.

The aim of Mission for Vocation Support MVS, is focused at the moment at supporting the formation of brothers in training for religious life and priesthood.

The projected trajectory means that the Vicariate of Eastern Africa has to be autonomous in the near future both in personnel and finance. As regards the personnel, it is a surmountable challenge, we have the numbers! The main challenge is the economic one. The maintenance of our students in formation, whose number continued to grow over the years, has consequently left the Vicariate with huge financial responsibilities. It is important to note here that it takes 10 to 11 years to train a Dominican student up to ordination and only a few out of the huge number of applications received annually are eventually admitted. This is a direct consequence of limited funds.

Now the Vicariate has 20 students, 7 novices and 4 postulants.

MVS PROJECTS

The Vicariate admits currently a maximum of 8 fresh students annually owing to the rising cost of the basic needs of the students such as food, healthcare, clothing, shelter, and books. The training of a student for one year is around Kshs 200, 000 tuition, Kshs 600000 for food, healthcare, clothing, shelter, allowance, travel, books etc.

Thank you and God Bless.

You need to know that

The training of a student till ordination is at a minimum cost of Kshs 800,000.00 annually. This may be a huge sum of money for some, but we appreciate whatever any man or woman of good will has to offer. So we have created further opportunities for anyone who wishes to help subsidize the training of our Dominican students as follows:

  1. To support a Dominican Student for one year
  2. To support a Dominican Student for 6 Months
  3. To Support a Dominican Student for 3 Months
  4. To Support a Dominican Student for 1 Month
  5. To Support a Dominican Student for 1 week
  6. To Support a Dominican Student with any Amount
